I have been wanting to get to know the Straight Shooter album by Bad Company better. Today while at the used CD store I purchased the George Marino remastered version. I know he had done the Zep remasters, which I was by no means happy with, but decided to give it a chance since I couldn't seem to be able to find a non-remastered version of the CD anywhere.

Needles to say, it was a waste of six dollars. Loud, harsh, and compressed...the disc is simply sad sounding. Although I do like the music, the CD is being tossed into the to-sell pile.

Can anyone here enlighten me as to what the best pressed version of this album is? In particular the best CD pressing.

Please help this man find musical bliss.

The original USA Swan Song/Atlantic CD release (mastered by an SH Forums member) is the ONLY good sounding CD of this great album. Mastered from the original master tapes.

Can't be TOO hard to find, can it? I even bought one from a Forum member last year for a few bucks after I heard a few songs on the DREADFUL SOUNDING double CD.

I haven't heard this album in years, but in high school it was a fave. I'm going to have to find this because my original vinyl is long gone. Shooting Star was such a great tune! (This was one album all the guys and girls agreed on at every party I went to in the mid 70's. It was a must!)

Thank you Steve. It is good to know there is a good sounding version available on CD.

If you find the time can you perhaps provide a bar code? This will help me communicate with potential sellers.

Because I am in such a good mood right now, Fats Domino playing on the Jukebox and all, I'll skip right upstairs and take a look for this... Back in a flash.

    OK, its:

    BAD COMPANY/Straight Shooter
CD number: Swan Song SS 8502-2
Made in USA by WEA Manufacturing...
CD mastering by THE ONE AND ONLY BARRY DIAMENT, Atlantic Studios

Yep, that's the good one. The s/t, also mastered by Mr. Diament, is also very good sounding, & well worth seeking out if you can't find Steve's Audio Fidelity gold disc.

Used to love them due to Free being my favourite band but after playing the original vinyl discs to death went off them.

  10. How about Burning Sky, did Barry do that one as well?

I have the original CD of "Burnin' Sky", catalog # 7 8500-2. It sounds good, but I'm not sure if it is Barry Diament's mastering, as their is no mastering credit given on this release.

You're better off putting an ad in the classifieds.

And don't forget to mention the amount you're willing to pay.

Hopefully the price won't go up too much on this used disc. I believe there are thousands out there. Every headbanger from the '70's must have it or traded it in on the remaster..

  14. No reason the price should go up Steve. I see these quite often, and rarely for more than $6.99.

And as many have stated, Barry did an outstanding job on it.

What year did Barry master this album?

  18. I'm guessing mid '80s Dave, as I have a 'Japan for U.S.' copy of 'Straight Shooter'.

I also have a "Made In Japan" for the US pressing of this and original pressings of all the BadCo CD's...I'm very happy with the way they sound....I see these around used also...should not be hard to find at a very decent price.

Is it safe to say that the Self-Titled original Bad Company CD mastered by Barry Diament was from a safety copy? Just curious.

What dreadful double cd are you referring to?

I think he's referring to the late 90's 2 disc compilation.

it's quite funny but these unremastered bad company cd's are not that common here in europe , you only come across the 1994 george marino and Ted jensen remastered editions.

I'm sorry, maybe I mean a three disc set, I don't know. It has an ugly "glitter" cover.

Anyone know which I'm talking about? Dreadful sound.
