Nope -- I think it's really going to happen this year.

of course...

by the time he puts it out it'll be $600.00 a box!

at this point I really could care less...I have plenty of Neil on CD.

$3000??? It was originally announced as 4 boxes of 8 cd's. If this one is $250.. that's $1000. I'm sure some folks here have spent $1000 collecting various pressings of "Pet Sounds."

It was originally announced that way, but I can't see how Neil is going to edit himself that much. The amount of material he recorded is overwhelming. Unless he scales back on the type of material he presents, he'll be up to the fourth set by 1982.

Yeah. I want to know how he's going to work it all out too. Especially since the Fillmore Show will count as one disc with about half the space still available on it. I hope some kind of tracklisting comes out soon. I also wonder about the book. The 8cd/2dvd box was supposed to have a big book that was probably going to be incorporated into the blu-ray file/screen.. now that CD's are coming, I wonder if the book is still on.

I still can't believe people actually think this is coming out this year, or at all. The official Reprise website for it still says "coming in 2007"! Obviously they should know a little more about it, enough to perhaps update the website?

I can't believe that people actually go into threads they are not interested in and tell people they shouldn't be looking forward to something.

I wonder if he will release any of these as individual CDs - like the Fillmore disc? Not being a completist, I would be inclined to pick and choose the discs I want.

Not interested in it?? Go back through this thread and the seemingly 50 others on this topic and you will see plenty of comments by me expressing my interest. I've been waiting for this since the original Rolling Stone interview with Neil in 1988 where he discussed it, but I've learned not to expect anything from him until it's ACTUALLY RELEASED. Oh, and just exactly where did I say people shouldn't be looking forward to it??

It Will NOT Happen This Year Folks... and who cares...

Meanwhile the plot sickens... I heard the two NY released promised THIS summer were cancelled... is this true? has he totally lost the plot?

I'm as big a NY fan as most peeps here, owning all his releases on vinyl, most on cds, many multiples, lots of dvds and vhs etc...

but I willl damned if after waiting 20 years for the sequel to Decade I will buy a Blue Ray player just to get his Archives... this is total NY ********...

I'm still waiting the classic records Massey Hall, then I'll be quite happy.

With the argueable exception of Sleeps With Angels, Neil hasn't released ANYTHING essential, or that can touch his 1970s heyday since Rust Never Sleeps...Tooo many hardcore NY fans here won't admit that his glory days are long gone, and that this Blue Ray set is a total arse-ripping rip off of his long-suffering fans...

cheers,

mrbill

The Archives set cant be a rip-off if you get what you pay for. Dont want it, dont buy it. Simple If enough people agree with you then it wont happen again. Oh and I realise its a little picky of me but the name of the format is Blu-Ray. Yes its a silly gimmick spelling, but it is what it is.

BTW love this photo Pawnmower posted of Neil! This was taken at the original Archives announcement press conference, right???

So, are Massey Hall and Fillmore going to be included in the box?

They were originally going to be. No idea what's in the box now. I held off buying those because of the possibility they are also in the box. Massey Hall has been hard to pass up. Fillmore just doesn't seem like a good deal as an incomplete half of a concert.

They're both great! I'd just buy them. The videos of neil and the archivist going through pictures and telling stories is worth the price.

This new piece of information seems to have escaped the attention of this forum. European retailers have apparently been given the heads up (pre-book info) by Warner on a date for the Neil Young Blu-ray and dvd sets for release in the 4th quarter of this year. I believe pricing info has been released also with the Blu-ray set costing several hundred pounds. Someone reported this on AVSforums just before that whole site lost about 10 days worth of posts in a forum crash.

Thrasher's Wheat:

The excruciatingly delayed "Archives" project is "supposed to be" released on November 3. (Note, this will be at the same time that Hell freezes over.) This information comes from Warner Bros. release sheets and Uncut confirms.

Incidentally, this places the release date one day prior to the U.S. presidential election so we're sure this news will have a significant impact on the race and cause a drop in voting participation as fans watch their Blu-rays and opt out of going to the polls. What was Neil thinking with this release date??? Regardless, folks are going to be either cheering or crying that week.

Also, according to our source BECAUSE SOUND MATTERS (who has been on target in the past), Neil Young will release "Sugar Mountain" on September 29. Exact details of what this album will contain are unconfirmed, but it’s widely presumed to be another set of vintage live material.

A bootleg album, "Live On Sugar Mountain", recorded at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles on the last night of Neil Young's early-1971 solo tour, has long been in circulation, and it’s *possible* the material for this official release may well be drawn from that show.

Thanks Greg, BSM & Scott in Glasgow!

If this is true then it great news! I won't hold my breath though. When I have Archives in my hands only then will I believe!
