I still say it won't be released this year.

I want it to come out and I'm eager to check out Blu-Ray's audio capabilities, but I will not purchase any equipment until this thing's for real.

I repeat: Neil Young's ARCHIVES will not be released in 2008. History supports this argument.

Past performance (or non-performance in this case) is no guarantee of future performance.

Also, every year that PASSES brings us inevitably closer to the year that Archives WILL be released. History only makes it MORE likely that this year is the year!

Arrow Neil Young announces upcoming 10 disc Archives release on Blu-ray*

http://www.uncut.co.uk/news/neil_young/news/12014

Neil Young’s much-delayed "Archives" project looks likely to finally get released on November 3.

"Archives Volume One 1963-1972" will be released as a 10-disc Blu-Ray and DVD collection and is expected to feature previously released live sets including "Live At Massey Hall", from 1971, and "Live At The Fillmore East", from 1970, as well as never released studio tracks, demos and artwork.

Meanwhile, Young is also apparently due to release "Sugar Mountain" on September 29. Exact details of what this album will contain are unconfirmed, but it’s widely presumed to be another set of vintage live material.

A bootleg album, "Live On Sugar Mountain", recorded at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles on the last night of Neil Young's early-1971 solo tour, has long been in circulation, and it’s likely the material for this official release may well be drawn from that show.

Ah, but time is an infinite, endless concept.

Not if you're a "Millenial Archivist" -- i.e., someone who believes the universe will implode upon itself if the first Archives box is ever released.

Hope to see a setlist soon. They're using the words "expected", "widely presumed", and "likely" to pad the article! I'd be a bit surprised to see Dorothy Chandler so hot on the heels of Massey Hall, but this is all in Blue Ray this time, so who knows? I'd guess (just like the guys in the release) that "Sugar Mountain" may be Riverboat or Canterbury House acoustic sets.

It would make more sense that "Sugar Mountain" would be the show from which the recording of "Sugar Mountain" originated. I love the Dorothy Chandler show, but I doubt I'd be able to deal with it in pristine sound after all this time. I'm used to the low fidelity of the recording. It has a good feel.

....and the fact that that LA gig is in the same time frame to recording from Massey last year, mean the UNCUT more than likely was just talking out of his...

I would put even money that its the 68 "Riveroat" gig.

hmmm 11-3 Monday in the UK, would that make it 11-4 in the states, coinciding with the US presidential election...Please don't end the thread ya'll just an observation

Why not? He called a studio album Broken Arrow in 1996. He's unpredictable.

Neil wanted to also call the companion LP to his concert film "Rust Never Sleeps". He was told by his record company he had already used the name for his latest studio album...

I assume that the 1969 show will be Archive Performance Series Vol. 1.

He is.. but Fillmore and Massey Hall are named after the venues. Unless he played this show on Sugar Mountain and I'm unaware of it.

Well, whatever it is HMV in the UK have it available for pre-order at £8.99 - and I saw a 'coming soon' placeholder in their store in Reading today. Both have release date as 29th September as reported earlier.

They were cancelled in July. No explanation given.

I'm *still* waiting for an official release date for ARCHIVES.

I reiterate: I predict it will not be released, in any form whatsoever, in 2008.

What's that falling from the sky? Oh ... I see. That would be rain on my parade.

C'mon now, if retailers are starting to list apparently related releases, that's another good sign, ain't it? I'm at least hopeful if you ain't.
