But, as with any Dire Straits or Mark Knopfler DVD release, the American licensee(Warner Music) doesn't wanna know. Presumably, in Canada, where Universal Music has the Dire Straits catalogue, there will be a release, supplying an NTSC DVD.
I got "Mark Knopfler-A Night in London", "Dire Straits-On The Night" & "Dire Straits-Sultans of Swing:The Very Best of" on Canadian DVD's. Be cautioned, that the sound on the Canadian "Sultans of Swing" DVD is poor and phasey. I played it once, and was disgusted. Fortunately, I've got the Japanese "Dire Straits-The Videos" Laserdisc, whose sound is superb. I dubbed it to DVD-R.

And still, no one has managed to exhume the performance of "Industrial Disease" that clearly took place between "Once Upon a Time..." and "Expresso Love". Probably a bunch of bum notes in it, or a flubbed vocal... still, I'm looking forward to seeing this in its entirety.

Im bummed that this isnt more complete. Is there any reason why the performance of Love Over Gold that made it out as the video for the single release is not on this DVD?? I will still end up buying this Im sure as I saw Dire Straits several times including on this tour, so it will be great to have, but I just wish it was as complete as possible!

I was thinking the same. It could have been included as extra
Anyway, I'm looking forward to watch that BBC 1980 doc. I've never seen it before.

Now please release Wembley 1985 on DVD !!!!!! it would be a wonderful chance, specially considering it's the 25th anniversary of the historical gigs

I wonder if this is different than the 07 March 1980 BBC that circulates among collectors around there

The live performance of "Love Over Gold" IS available on DVD, on the Uk & Canada DVD releases of "Dire Straits-Sultans of Swing:The Very Best of", and now some good news for North American fans: the forthcoming Uk DVD of "Alchemy" will Be NTSC. This is according to an administrator on the Mark Knopfler website.

Any info about that BBC arena 1980 doc?

It's the same as youtube clips and bootlegs? as far I know, that one is not from December 1980 but March

Why would the UK dvd be NTSC? That would mean no one in the UK would be able to play it.

Most music DVDs are now done in NTSC because unlike the USA, most TVs in the UK can play PAL or NTSC, whereas the same isn't true the other way around.

The format of DVD's, videocassettes & Laserdiscs(and analogue television) in North America, Central America, two-thirds of South America, plus Cuba, Japan, The Phillipines, South Korea. It has 525 lines(though less than half of those lines are on screen at a given moment) & 30 frames per second

Is the documentary the one that shows the band rehearsing for I think what would be Making Movies? I think David Knopfler was still in the band. I think he was playing a Telecaster. I saw this a couple of years ago on cable and it was really cool. A total time capsule to 1980!

Why on earth they haven't release it? I don't understand.

Arguably, Dire Straits at their peak. One of my all times favourite gigs
I really hope it will come next

The "Portobello belle" (live) that was present on the first DS collection "money for nothing" isn't from the same shows as Alchemy?

Lol, no doubt. And PAL has 20% more resolution than NTSC.
Stupid, I'd be pissed if I was in the UK.

Of course there is the Blu-ray so who really cares about DVD?
    =D

Gorgeous new 5.1 LOSSLESS surround mix by Chuck Ainlay? I'm sold.

I don't remember if PB from the compilation MFN was sourced from the Alchemy concert (I guess not), but for sure it was played both the nights (22nd & 23rd July 1983) that were used for Alchemy.
This is the complete tracklist for both the nights:

Once upon a time in the west
    Industrial disease
    Expresso love
    Romeo and Juliet
    Love over gold
    Private investigations
    Sultans of swing
    Twisting by the pool
    Two young lovers
    Portobello Belle
    Tunnel of love
    Telegraph Road
    Solid rock
    Going home

  25. I always thought it stould for Never The Same Color.

    ;)
