I am answering my own question. As forum member Blackie pointed out in another thread this stands for L=Long W=Wear, that is LongWear Stamper Co.

It's funny how it looked like Greek to me.

I posted this in a separate thread, but thought I'd post here as well as a cross reference.

This took me a while to figure out, but I finally did. The stamp is from The Lacquer Channel in Sausalito, CA (across the bay from S.F.). The albums I have with this are all Bay Area bands (Grateful Dead, Hot Tuna, Paul Kantner & Grace Slick, New Rider's, etc...) during the early 70's. Here's a link from Stephen Barncard's website: The Lacquer Channel

This thread should be stickied. When I'm at home looking at my vinyl, I'll never be able to find this thread again.

Anyone know who RM for WB is? I just got the new 180 gram Jane's Addiction Nothing's Shocking. Was hoping for a KG @ ATM but RM will suffice...

Is there a list anywhere that has what titles KG did?

On some 45's released by Mercury, subsidiaries and distributed labels during the early 1970's, was etched in the deadwax a script "P" followed by an @ symbol. I was just apprised on another board that apparently that signature was of Phil Austin, who worked at Mercury Sound and Masterdisk and then went to Trutone Labs where he worked for 25 years before retiring. This from another Trutone mastering engineer, Carl Rowatti:

Very interesting. I have a The Downward Spiral promo from around 1995 that has that marking (image on the right).

I saw a couple of new (to me) markings recently:

Wings - Wings Over America (Capitol, Canada): All 6 sides machine stamped MASTERED BY CAPITOL, sides 4 - 6 "Wally" but, sides 1 - 5 all have "-K-" on them. Any clue about the "-K-" marking?

Renaissance - Scheherezade (RCA, Germany): Machine stamped catalogue number with hand-scribed "S-I" underneath it on both sides. Any clues?

    Cheers,
    Chris

Could "K" be for Ken Perry? Just a guess. . .

I have never seen Perry sign like that, He always had a script 'Kp' as a sig, and it is usually etched so finely that it is really hard to see in the wax...

Does anybody knows what should means ARUM? All capitals, hand etched, after machine printed matrix numbers. I found it on the deadwax of a UK's first edition of KC's Discipline, EGLP 49, from 1981.

That would be likely be "ARUN" who is Arun Chakraverty.

Yes, and I'd be interested to hear his take on Discipline :)

Thanks. Yes, it is ARUN, not ARUM -- my typo.

It sounds fine, well balanced and clear, but I have no other copy on vinyl to compare with; I have just one Fripp & Arnold re-mastered "Definitive Edition" CD, by EG/Caroline Records, from 1989. Also, it seems to be a latter pressing, maybe from 1982, as the cover is not embossed.

My AC/DC "Highway To Hell" has a ARUN etched on the dead wax. I think it's the very first UK pressing.
    Side One: S-17 K50628A-1 ARUN 1 E.G..
    Side Two: S-19 K50628B-1 ARUN 2 E.G..
By the way it's the best sounding I have ever heard... Better than my Australian APLP 040.

Bringing this thread back to life. Someone just donated a Beatles' Love Songs album to me. It has "Harry" etched in the deadwax. I know Harry Moss normally used HTM, but has anyone come across the use of "Harry" on Beatles vinyl? This looks to be an early 80's UK pressing.

I think that is indeed HTM. I've seen others, but don't recall specifics.. maybe the white vinyl The Beatles?
