"Albatross"is such a unique and landmark tune. I hear in it the earlier fat neck-pickup tone of a Hendrix and hear it's influence on many guitarists afterward (ex SRVs slower stuff lke Lenny & Riviera Paradise)) and of course the song itself reveals its influence on others like the Beatles "Sun King" and King Crimsons "Matte Kudasai".

Thanks for the info > much appreciated.

Do you have a preference between the stereo mix and the mono (treated stereo folddown)?

I agree. The remake may be fine but it's not the same thing (never will be) as the 40+ year old landmark original recording. I really appreciate all the great insight and comments from posters thus far in this thread.

This thread had me digging out all of my P.G. era Fleetwood Mac and noticed I had a live record called "Green Manalishi Live" which has an incredible version of the title track. It's on a German label called Commander. Is this from the Boston Tea Party shows?

  6. Mike Ross, you and Mike Vernon both need to do a book on your careers.....so much you have given, and so much we could learn from your work.

Now, a strange question....on the 6 cd box set, one can hear Peter Green's vocal "enthusiasm" of 'yeah', grunts, and harmonizing on his guitar, or in reference to the vocal and band work. All I can gather is that he was really really "turned on" in the studio, in a good way. I wish we could get more studio environments so comfortable as you guys provided.

In the words of another immortal......'thanks for the memories'

    Cheers

    Carlos

    Hi Mike,
Thank you so much for your important contributions to the world of music by way of the early Fleetwood Mac. The Peter Green Era is one which should be more well-known to the general population instead of just music afficianados. I believe this to be a terrible shame. Whenever I hear Peter during "Need Your Love So Bad", I hear one of the greatest examples of genuine emotional urgency I've ever heard through his voice and that wonderful guitar of his.

I prefer the stereo mix as that was the mix we spent time on perfecting and the wide stereo spread suits the style of the tune .....also the tom-toms and cymbals were recorded in true stereo......the mono mix is a fold down with extra compression and EQ for radio play.

Yes I agree and the vocal and guitar was recorded live with the rest of the band.
