If you burn a CD from an original; personally do you feel you lose anything?

Some of the CDs in my collection, especially these Japanese Mini LPs :) , I don't want to carry around in the truck. So; naturally, I make copies using 'good' CD-Rs.

For those of you that also do this, do you think there is any difference between the original and the copy?

I've never done an A-B comparison. But; I'm not sure, I could tell any difference.

    Thoughts?

Hell, I burn discs to my harddrive and then copy them to my ipod and play them in my car and they sound pretty damn good. Got Infinitys in the car they sound nice.

    ...is there a loss? Yes.
...depending on the burn speed and the quality of the CDR... :hide:
...does it matter for the truck? No.

    bailing out now, :-popcorn:

I guess I look at it like this. I'm 42 and figure I've lost part of my hearing between load concerts, mowing grass (which NOW I do with earplugs), normal sounds of the day and children (WOW how does such loud noise come out of such small things). So even if there is technically a loss, I can't hear it so it doesn't matter to me if there is. Just my opinion.

I lose a CD-R, but gain peace of mind. Nice trade off.

I make CD-R comps for the car. I don't really have an opportunity to study the aural properties of the disc because I'm too busy flipping off the morons who drive around me. j/k

My copies always come out bit perfect. If they don't, it was usually because of some dumb mistake on my part during the extraction process. I've never been able to tell the difference during a blind test.

How come, in my threads about this, everyone said it isn't possible, that something is always lost in the transfer. No one here has even asked what computer program he uses to do it. Isn't that supposed to matter?

Some people say there is a sonic loss

Some people say there is a sonic gain

Which is why the only reasonable and logical answer is that...

    there is neither. :p

As far as i am concerned, there is always a loss in any data to data transfer, as error correction is a constant factor.
But then again i'm going to die eventually so who cares? :)

I should clarify something- Ric in Jersey did say that, if extracted lossless, the transfer should be perfect. I seem to have made absolutely perfect copies doing this with Window Media Player.
