He and Svend Asmussen have represented the jazz violin here in Europe for many years before Jean Luc Ponty and Michał Urbaniak invaded the scene with their jazz fusion atmospheres. Grappelli has been one of the greatest European musicians and an eminent member of the Quintette du Hot Club de France with the immense Django Reinhardt.
How much do you charge to clean record covers, per thousand? I like this record for being Big Miller's first LP session. Big Miller (1922-1992), a blues/jazz vocalist comparable to Jimmy Rushing, got more recognition through being introduced at festivals by Jon Hendricks. He went on to record with Ben Webster in his band. He relocated to Western Canada (Alberta), where he became a local hero and was widely loved, while being ignored in his home country. He proudly declared, "I am an Albertan!" See the link https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/edmonton-alberta-jazz-big-miller-1.6341607
Edmonton, Alberta erected a statue to honor Big Miller, in a park named for him, something that never would have happened in the USA. Though many jazz musicians loved Big Miller's sound for many years, he could not get any recordings made in the USA until he was nearly 40. The sculptor did a great job. It is mounted to be viewed (not 20 feet up in the air) and photographs very well.
Something for classic Brit jazz fans - the owner of Jazz In Britain record label got interviewed here: Adventures in Archive British Jazz Philanthropy... Well worth checking!
Yes, so far anything by Brookmeyer I've found to be enjoyable. Hadn't realized it was available to quickly. Glad to read your positive report. $250 is a lot, but for Monk, I may be persuaded. I was wondering about the blues singer and hadn't read up. Thx for posting. Charge per thousand LPs? I enjoy the task so much, I'd do it for free, but its really only fun when they're really dirty, and beautiful vintage covers underneath. The shipping of records back and forth make it impractical.
Ratings of record condition remind me of the ratings that the retail and service sectors are requesting from customers for all employee interactions. Has a cashier ever whispered to you, "If you are not giving me a 10 out of 10, please do not fill it in, because even if you give me a 9, my boss will come and demand to know why I only got a 9." That seems to be a very frequent situation. I try to tell almost every employee that I encounter that they are doing a great job, regardless of the situation. They often say something like, "You just made my day! Thanks."
If I am in a place like Home Depot, I will sometimes find a manager and tell him something like, "That guy in the paint department is excellent!" The managers are usually shocked and may say, "No one ever comes up to me to compliment any employee!"
Igor got a real kick out of your avatar. He still goes on the Forum now and then, but has to wear shades because of the bright lights up there.
I wouldn’t wait too long. Acoustic Sounds says they only have “limited stock.” My copy is due here today or tomorrow.
