I was hoping for a 20th anniversary vinyl reissue of Brian Wilson’s SMiLE. But I emailed Rhino and they said there were no plans to put out this title in 2024. Sigh.
They’ll dig up another Doors live concert and another multi-disc Grateful Dead Set. Not forgetting a Taylor Swift or Olivia Rodrigo release just to piss off the luddites.
The last had albums by David Byrne and Jerry Harrison. Would love more of their catalogs to get a new release. There's also quite a bit on Ani Difranco that needs a reissue, so that would be great too.
I'm looking forward to more jaded opinions on: overpriced/unnecessary reissues, long lines with Swifties and flippers with 500% mark-ups on Discogs.
I want to see some 40th anniversary albums like: The Pretenders - Learning To Crawl Echo & The Bunnymen - Ocean Rain Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Welcome To The Pleasuredome and, for sentimental reasons: Madonna - Like A Virgin I really want: This Is Big Audio Dynamite by Big Audio Dynamite It's from 1985 (so 39 years ago), but I love it and it's never been re-released. I had to buy it used because I kept waiting and finally gave up a few months ago and found a near mint copy.
Pleasuredome could easily become a box set since you'd have to include the 12" mixes. Like a Virgin would probably next an extra disc for the 12" mixes as well as "Into the Groove" and "Crazy for You".
6 years ago frankie came out with a record store day boxset, the first 48 inches: https://www.discogs.com/release/11894761-Frankie-Goes-To-Hollywood-The-First-48-Inches later || || | ne gative 1
It'll be the usual list of overpriced minor variations of already available records bought by EBay bandits to sell at over-inflated prices, sometimes even before RSD itself. Ignore it, and support your local record store across the whole year instead.
I still can't believe there's never been a vinyl pressing of Gillian Welch's Time The Revelator. Generally speaking, I've decided in recent years that RSD is simply not really "for me" anymore, but that's a thing I'd line up for, I think.
Ok. Join that long queue alongside all the once-a-year shoppers. If you’re lucky, you might get what you want at the store’s asking price. Personally, I reckon life’s just too short.
The Fall - Country On The Click (original mix) - a box set "breakout" release from the 5CD edition coming at the end of the month. Dua Lipa - Houdini 12" Suede - Autofiction Live (Disc 3 of the 3CD edition) - either that or an LP of the 8 Bloodflowers b-sides. The Cure - 4:13 Dream picture disc
Iggy Pop-Brick By Brick on Vinyl.Long Overdue! The Rolling Stones-Sucking In The 70’s.They can reissue EVERY other album on vinyl-why NOT this?
The truth is I’m going to buy whatever Dead or Garcia stuff they release unless I have it already. It would be nice to see either entirely new releases or stuff that isn’t on streaming (12/31/76, GD Movie ST), but I’d be cool with another E72 show too.
