trying to avoid a negative connotation like under-rated, i thought i would try 'under-appreciated". i offer michael timmons of the cowboy junkies. quite the player, very tasty and truly takes control of the band....compliments his sisters vocals nicely. very under-recognized for his ability for sure.
For me it's Pete Townshend and Alex Lifeson. Both great Guitarist that sort of get over showed by exceptional Bassists and Drummers
Thanks for correcting that so often misused "under-rated" term. Indeed, the guitarists that get mentioned in such posts are always rated highly by those who know them and are in no way under-rated. Under-appreciated is much more accurate. I haven't heard the Cowboy Junkies guitarist - I'll have to check him out. I really like the guitar playing I hear on the recordings of a band called Monograph. They were around in the late 90's. I see the band member names on Wikipedia but it's not clear which is the guitarist.
