I noticed that the CD that came in the CD/DVD combo package sounded more brickwalled to me than the regular one CD edition. Are my ears just playing tricks on me or are they different masterings?

I have the Best Buy bonus tracks edition and it is pretty loud. Could be worse, I guess.

Looking at the CD now in EAC and it doesn't look bad at all, certainly peak limited and somewhat compressed. Not majorly brickwalled. But if it doesn't sound good to you that's what matters.

Could someone kindly post the EAC numbers for the regular CD only release (no extra tracks)

I have the CD that came in the CD/DVD combo and all I can say is that my ears are hurting from listening to the CD. Hell, Memory almost Full sounds better! :hide:

I've listened to it many times and I don't get the fatigue that I notice on actual brickwalled efforts like the Genesis SACD's.

    No.

Is it not the same mastering except for the lack of extra tracks?

CD sounds very bad- can only listen to it in my car, not on my home system.
    Vinyl is much better.

Here are the results for my CD-only copy:

    98.7 % - 100.0 % - 99.1 % - 100.0 % - 100.0 % - 98.9 % - 100.0 % - 100.0 % - 100.0 % - 99.5 % - 99.4 % - 100.0 % - 99.1 % - 99.5 % - 98.7 % - 94.5 % - 100.0 %

    Best Buy bonus tracks at end = 100.0 % - 100.0 % - 100.0 %

As you can see, the album section matches Turnaround's CD/DVD copy!

But this is still one of the special ones. The EAC data I want is the Regular all by itself with no bonus tracks CD. I remember borrowing it from my local library and remember a better listen than the CD with the DVD that I eventually bought.

Wow, that's scary. The vinyl is nothing great.

How about Regplaygain figures, has anyone checked those out? EAC peak values only tell you that at least one peak in a song hit 100% (or whatever the value may be). RG gives you the average loudness value weighted according to human hearing.

I have the cd and the vinyl and in my humble opinion the vinyl is not signifactnly better, a little bit better, maybe.
Both the cd and vinyl are not audio nirvana but what counts is the music which i adore :) .

Could be differences in my CD and vinyl playback systems....
I bought the vinyl after playing the CD and encountering significant ear bleeds.

    Scary?

That waveform looks fine. It's zoomed all the way out, yet still clearly has dynamics.

How is the 5.1 mix on the dvd? Does it use the rear speakers much or is in mainly the front 3?
